Business model
Metsä Board is part of Metsä Group, and benefits from its unique value chain, from pure northern fibre to end products. Metsä Board produces premium recyclable fresh fibre paperboards, used mainly in consumer product packaging. The business model focuses on sustainable and profitable growth as well as value creation for all stakeholders. Metsä Board relies on global cooperation with its customers and technology partners in product and service development emphasising innovation and sustainability.
Metsä Board's eight (8) production units are located in Finland and Sweden, close to the main raw material, high-quality northern wood fibre. The raw
wood is sourced centrally through Metsä Group from Finland, Sweden and the Baltic countries. The wood is sourced only from sustainably
managed forests, in which the regeneration of the forests and biodiversity
is safeguarded. Most of the wood purchased in Finland comes from forests
owned by Metsäliitto Cooperative’s owner-members. In Sweden, Metsä Board has a long-term wood delivery agreement with the Swedish forest
owner cooperative Norra Skog.
Metsä Board has sales to over 100 countries and has approximately 2,400
employees in 18 countries.
Metsäliitto Cooperative, Metsä Group's parent company, holds 48% of Metsä Board’s shares and 67% of the voting rights conferred by shares. Metsä Board, on the other hand, owns 24.9% of its associated company, Metsä Fibre. Metsä Board’s own pulp production and holding in Metsä Fibre together guarantee the company’s self-sufficiency in pulp. This enables Metsä Board to grow in fibre based packaging materials according to its strategy. It also ensures a consistent and high quality of its end products.
