Food service board

Food service boards are used to make products such as cups, bowls, trays and containers. They are also used in frozen food packaging applications like ice cream cups and containers.

What are our food service paperboards used for?

Metsä Board manufactures paperboards for a wide variety of food service applications. These include packaging for takeaway foods and foods consumed on the go as well as packaging for food and drinks consumed in cafeterias and fast-food restaurants. Our paperboards are safe for direct food contact and are made from pure, traceable fresh fibres, meaning they are fully recyclable.

Light but strong

Thanks to its three-layer structure our food service board is light but stiff. The outer layers are made from chemical pulp and the middle layer is made from bleached chemi-thermomechanical pulp. The top layer is pigment coated or uncoated. A barrier against moisture and grease can be created by applying PE extrusion coating on one side only or on both sides of the paperboard.

Our unique fibre mix sets a new benchmark in paperboard lightweighting, enabling excellent strength and printability with low basis weight.

With our tailored, resource-efficient pulps we use less wood raw material and water to produce the paperboard.
