Launched in 2019, Kyro’s dispersion coated barrier paperboard helps reduce plastic use in, for example, food packaging requiring grease and moisture resistance. It is also fully recyclable.

Our main market is Europe, but we also deliver significant quantities of paperboard to North America and Asia. The mill is located in the village of Kyröskoski, some 40 km northwest of Tampere.

The mill only uses Metsä Group’s own pulps in its production: BCTMP (bleached chemo-thermomechanical pulp) from Metsä Board’s Joutseno and Kaskinen mills, and chemical pulp from Metsä Fibre’s mills.

All the wood raw material the mill uses is traceable and comes from sustainably managed Northern European forests, which are either PEFC or FSC® certified, or meet the criteria for controlled origin. The mill is committed to Metsä Board’s target of achieving completely fossil free mills and products by the end of 2030.
