The Map My Mole kit includes a clinical dermoscope, a magnifying lens attachment that enables users to take medical-quality images of their skin using a smartphone. These images are then assessed by dermatology professionals.

Willemijn Zandt, Senior Healthcare Project Manager at Burgopak, said: “It was important that the packaging communicates trust and efficacy, leaving a reassuringly positive first impression. We were mindful that this is a medical device that arrives at what could be quite an anxious moment for the user."

“We also needed to make sure the pack would be quick and efficient to fulfil. We had an operational challenge to rise to, and a user experience to get right, and it was very satisfying to do both", Zandt adds.

The Map My Mole device is packaged inside MetsäBoard Pro FBB Bright, a high-quality fresh-fibre paperboard produced by Metsä Board. This product was specifically selected for its performance and value, as well as its ability to help achieve the project’s goals of protecting the lens and responsible sourcing.

“Our global supply chain gives us access to a wide range of materials, from conventional to more specialist stocks. We have a curated list of preferred materials in each region that meet our standards for performance, value and sustainability. In Europe, one of these is MetsäBoard Pro FBB Bright", adds Zandt.

Tom Symons, Sales Director Pharma and Healthcare, Metsä Board, said: “This demonstrates the vital role of high-quality paperboard in healthcare packaging — supporting protection, patient engagement and safety while also enhancing brand impact. It is a strong example of how Nordic paperboard can contribute to a well-designed, functional packaging solution.”

Tottie Dalton, Operations Director, Map My Mole, added: “The Burgopak design team marry the functional effectiveness from healthcare with the elevated user experience and brand building typical of consumer products. This is exactly what drew us to them as our design partner. We’re thrilled with how the packaging looks and the kits are already helping thousands of people with concerns about new or changing moles.”
