The growth and well-being of children and young people

We support the well-being of children and young people with concrete actions – through physical activity and forest nature all over Finland.

Together with the Finnish Sports Association (SUL), we promote physical activities. Together with the Finnish 4H organization, we strengthen the relationship between children and young people and the forest by increasing forest knowledge and providing a diverse picture of Finnish forest nature and forestry.

We support a physical lifestyle for children and young people

Metsä Group continues its collaboration with the Finnish Sports Federation (SUL) to support children and youth sports. Metsä Group will act as SUL's main partner during 2025–2028.

The main events of the collaboration are the national Metsä Group competitions for children and youth. Events are organized annually in more than 500 different parts of Finland. A total of 25,000 children and youth participate in them annually.

Metsä Group has been the main partner of the Metsä Group competitions for 5–15 year old since 2022. The events are a local-level competition format where children and youth are encouraged to engage in a variety of activities in a safe and joyful way. The events are meant for the whole family, where parents can also participate in measuring and recording results.

We strengthen young people's forestry knowledge and relationship with the forest

Metsä Group and the Finnish 4H in Finland continue their cooperation in 2025–2026.

The aim of the school forest days, organized jointly by the Finnish 4H in Finland and Metsä Group, is to strengthen young people's relationship with forests by increasing forest knowledge and providing a diverse picture of Finnish forest nature and forestry. The forest days are organized as a school collaboration in different parts of Finland, either in the forests near the school or in commercial forest sites, and they are designed to support the school curriculum.

During the days, young people learn about, among other things, tree growth, the carbon cycle, climate issues and the life cycle of wood products. The program includes planting tree seedlings in the spring, and getting to know forest machinery in the autumn.

Cooperation with the 4H in Finland brings forests closer to young people. It concretizes the importance of forests for well-being, biodiversity and combating climate change. At the same time, it opens up perspectives on the economic importance of the forest sector - both locally and globally.
