It's time to talk

About forest

In Finland, forest management and use of wood have been moulded by the interaction between different stakeholders. There has always been a dialogue between these parties, and now it is more necessary than ever. This is why Metsä Group invites experts to gather in a round-table discussion concerning the future prospects of nature, the forest sector and, at the same time, the nation as a whole. Watch the five episodes of discussions below.

Forests and climate change

The first discussion focuses on climate change mitigation, on safeguarding the biodiversity of forests and the sustainable use of forests. Baba Lybeck hosted a debate between Petteri Taalas (PhD in Meteorology, Secretary-General of World Meteorological Organization), Janne Kotiaho (Professor of Ecology, Chair of the Finnish Nature Panel) and Ilkka Hämälä (President and CEO of Metsä Group).

Forests and biodiversity

In the second discussion, we look at ways towards more diverse forest nature.

Forest industry and sustainable use of forests

The third discussion focuses on how can we achieve a balance between the use of forests and nature values.

Forest owners playing a critical role

In this discussion we dive into everyday forest management. By owning forest, one also owns a piece of history and the future. Forest owners Katariina Latva and Mikko Alhainen engaged in the studio debate. Aino Juslén, Director of the Nature solutions unit of the Finnish Environment Institute, and Timo Lehesvirta, Metsä Group’s leading nature expert, provided support and counterarguments during the debate.

Forest owners, climate and biodiversity

The fifth discussion focuses on how global warming should be taken into account in forest management.
