One of the tendered transportation types was container transportations from mills to loading ports, approximately 8,000 containers annually. We extended cooperation with Speed Oy to cover all our container transportations, one of the reasons behind the decision was that Speed Oy is able to operate with eco trucks which can carry two containers at a time, instead of only one. The CO2 emissions of these eco trucks are 30–40% less than standard trucks of same age.

Based on the data from previous contract period, Speed has transported over 80% of containers with eco trucks. This means minimum 25–32% decrease in CO2 emissions.

Speed Oy eco trucks

An ambitious environmental target

By the end of 2022 Speed Oy will use 90% eco trucks in container transportation and will begin to operate the first, fully electric, zero emission eco truck in Finland. Speed Oy also favours biobased fuels and has invested in the first container truck using LNG. Company´s ultimate target is to be carbon-neutral in 2030. At that time all containers are transported by vehicles running on hydrogen, electricity or biogas.

Our suppliers’ innovativeness lowers the CO2 emissions of Metsä supply chains.
