Essi developes sustainability reporting

How did Essi end up working in the forest industry? Read her career story and find out what her job is all about and why she enjoys working at Metsä Group.

What do you do at Metsä Group?

I work as an ESG manager in the Metsä Group finance controlling team, where I am responsible for creating and developing our sustainability report.

What kind of career path have you had?

I have a Master of Economics and Business Administration  background and my major was international business and management. These studies included sustainability studies, in addition to which I did a minor in sustainability topics at another university.

At the end of my studies, I did my thesis for the company's responsibility team and at the same time did an internship in that company.  Since then, I have worked in other companies on climate issues as well as reporting.

What is the best thing about your job?

The best part is that my work is not limited to one team, but I get to work with different people across the organization. Another thing I like is the versatility of the work. My work includes both running data in Excel and developing different processes.

What do you consider important in Metsä Group/what do you value in Metsä Group?

It is important to me that there is a genuine desire to develop things here. When it comes to sustainability, it's great that we want to be forerunners. In my work, it has been reflected, for example, in the fact that last year Metsä Group made a CSRD sustainability report, although this is not required. I also think it's great that Metsä wants to be open and have a dialogue with different stakeholders.

How would you describe our team spirit?

I feel that our team spirit is nurtured and the company aims to strengthen it. We always go to lunch together with the team, and there is a culture of saying hello at Metsä.

What has been the most memorable project/job assignment so far?

The most memorable project so far has been making a CSRD test report. In it, I got a taste of the new role and got to learn a lot of new things and get to know people.

Why apply for a job at the forest sector?

For me, the biggest reason was the impact of the industry. The forest sector is truly present in all of our lives, whether it is through toilet paper or the forest in the backyard. I am interested in how we can make our operations even more sustainable.
