Policies and statements

Metsä Group’s sustainability principles and Codes of Conduct for employees and suppliers guide its responsibility work. The Employee Code of Conduct is an essential part of day-to-day sustainability management. It guides our employees to follow the required ethical principles concerning conflicts of interest, competition, communication and the prevention of bribery and other fraudulent conduct. The Code of Conduct requires all employees to report any behaviour that they believe to be in breach of the instructions. They can report such behaviour to their supervisor, the Compliance Officer or the General Counsel of Metsä Group.

We have also defined working methods and prepared instructions for environmental management, human resources, equal opportunities and purchasing.

Supplier Code of Conduct

We have defined working methods and prepared instructions for environmental management, personnel policy, equality and purchasing.

Operations in the supply chain are guided by the Supplier Code of Conduct, which is included as an appendix in each supplier agreement. Metsä Group’s Code of Conduct for Suppliers provides common ethical guidance, which we expect all our suppliers to commit to. This Code of Conduct is based upon internationally recognised guidelines such as the United Nations Global Compact and the International Labour Organization (ILO) Conventions.

Our aim is to ensure that we work with suppliers that are committed to sustainability and safe working practices. In addition, we expect all suppliers to have high standards of business ethics and integrity. Our Code of Conduct for Suppliers prohibits the use of forced, or child labour, emphasises the respect for human rights as well as actions against corruption and bribery. By the end of 2017, 82% of our total spend on purchases was covered by the Metsä Group Code of Conduct for Suppliers.
