Located in Lappeenranta, on the shores of Lake Saimaa, our Joutseno pulp mill produces high-quality softwood pulp as its main product. It is used as raw material for paperboard, tissue and printing papers, as well as speciality products. Our softwood pulp is made of both sawmill chips and Nordic pine and spruce. We always know the origin of the wood we use.
In addition to softwood pulp, the Joutseno mill produces biochemicals used in industrial production, cleaning agents and the food industry to replace fossil-based raw materials.
Our energy-efficient mill produces more bioenergy than we need. In addition to using renewable energy in our own production, we supply it as electricity to the grid, for example. The lime kiln at the Joutseno mill is running by bark-based product gas. Thanks to this, our mill does not use fossil-based fuels during normal operations.
We develop our mill through systematic investment to ensure safe and efficient mill operations and good environmental performance.
The Joutseno mill is an important employer in south-eastern Finland, both directly and indirectly. In addition to the mill’s own personnel, dozens of professionals from our partner companies also work in the mill area. We cooperate closely with local stakeholders, and every year we support initiatives promoting the wellbeing of children and young people. Our cooperation with educational institutions in the region is active and diverse. Among other things, we offer summer jobs, traineeships and apprenticeship training, and participate in recruitment events organised by local higher education institutions.
