Spruce (Picea abies) is one of the most abundant species in Finnish forests, It is also known as European whitewood as an attribute to its light colour of the heartwood and sapwood when cut.

Metsä spruce sawn timber provides a beautiful, consistent look for interior decoration solutions. Our spruce sawn timber is particularly well-suited for interior and exterior paneling, furniture, construction, woodworking products, glulam production and concrete casting moulds.

The key properties of Metsä Spruce sawn timber are

  • an even colour from the heartwood to the sapwood
  • densely grained structure
  • sound knotted appearance

The spruce sawn timber is produced at our Renko and Vilppula sawmills in Finland, with a total average capacity of 855 000 cubic meters. All of our products are made from wood that comes from sustainably managed forests.

Advanced manufacturing of spruce sawn timber

Our state-of-the-art facilities and solutions allow us to sort and produce our sawn timber from the perspective of the properties desired by the customer for their end products. The Nordic spruce logs arrive to our sawmills to be debarked and sawn to applicable sizes. To obtain correct moisture content, the sawn timbers are dried precisely. Ultimately, each sawn timber is graded and sorted based on to their visual, structural and quality features. Thanks to our latest, modern sawmilling technologies and our related know-how, special production processes are available for our different timber  gradings. We offer Metsä Spruce SF I-V 410, Metsä Spruce US 140 CC, Metsä Spruce US140 SB, Metsä Spruce V 210 and Metsä Spruce VI 310 as our sawn timber products.  In particular, ST-grade is available in several different sizes and they differ in terms of length, branch size, humidity and intended use.
