Sponsorship for the benefit of children and young people

Metsä Group supports the well-being of children and young people in many ways. With our partners, we support exercise opportunities for young people around the country, in addition to investing in preventing social exclusion among young people and strengthening their relationship with forests.

Metsä Group sponsors programmes that support the well-being of children and young people. In order to support young people in their daily lives as extensively as possible, we cooperate with national partners around the country. Our sponsorship has the following focuses:

  • Supporting exercise among children and young people in cooperation with the Finnish Olympic Committee
  • Strengthening children’s and young people’s relationship with forests in cooperation with the Finnish 4H organisation and its more than 200 local associations
  • Preventing social exclusion among children and young people in cooperation with the Family Federation of Finland’s helpline for boys.

By supporting the Wings for Youth campaign of the Finnish Olympic Committee’s sports academies, Metsä Group donates altogether 30,000 hours of coaching lessons for secondary school students in eight locations where Metsä Group has operations. We work to support well-being among young people by offering opportunities for inspiring, sporty lifestyles. Finnish Sports Academies is a network of 20 local sports academies coordinated by the Finnish Olympic Committee. At the national level, the network includes 160 secondary schools, around 400 professional coaches and a total of 16,000 young athletes. The common goal of the entire network is for young people to fulfil their potential in sport and other areas of life. The purpose is to provide young athletes with a balanced structure for each day in terms of training, school and other areas of life. This also supports the development of their life management skills.

Through the Finnish 4H organisation, young people have an opportunity to get to know the forest industry and its wide range of career opportunities. We support lower secondary school students’ trips to Metsä Group’s production units in different parts of Finland. We also sponsor local associations’ purchases of clearing saws, so young people can borrow the necessary equipment for forest management work and earn money. In addition, we participate in the Forest Days event, which attracts up to 35,000 pupils annually. We partner with 4H at Business Lab workshops to support entrepreneurship among young people.

We support the Family Federation of Finland’s work to prevent social exclusion among boys and young men in particular. The Federation’s helpline for boys helps young people with issues related to growing up and entering adulthood. The free helpline receives almost 50,000  calls annually from young people around the country. Of the calls, around 15,000 can be answered.
