Metsä Fibre, part of Metsä Group, will carry out an investment shutdown at the Kemi bioproduct mill during October–November 2026 in connection with the renewal of the cooking area. The related production shutdown will last six weeks, and the mill's annual maintenance shutdown will be carried out at the same time.
The company is initiating change negotiations concerning temporary lay-offs of personnel due to this extended production shutdown. The negotiations cover the mill's entire personnel, approximately 225 people in total. Any lay-offs would last a maximum of 90 days and could be implemented by the end of 2026.
The negotiations are due to begin in week 34 and are expected to continue for approximately one week.
