The change negotiations initiated by Metsä Fibre, part of Metsä Group, at its Kemi bioproduct mill concerning possible temporary layoffs have been concluded. The negotiations covered the entire mill workforce, a total of approximately 225 people.
Following the change negotiations, it was decided that the company will implement temporary layoffs of personnel during the remainder of 2026. The temporary layoffs are related to the six-week investment shutdown caused by the renewal of the bioproduct mill’s cooking area, and to the mill’s annual maintenance shutdown, which will take place at the same time in October–November 2026.
The layoffs will last for a maximum of 90 days. The allocation, amounts and dates of layoffs will be specified by the end of this year.
