Press release

Metsä Wood  has done a preliminary agreement on buying 10 hectare industrial site located in the city of Pärnu in Estonia. The preliminary agreement is related to the EUR 100 million investment programme concerning plywood and Kerto® LVL published in June 2016 and the planned new plywood mill in Estonia. The plan is to convert birch veneers into plywood at the Estonian mill. Birch veneers would be produced at the new peeling and drying line in Äänekoski at Metsä Group’s Pulp and Paperboard Industries’ mill site. Also, the birch plywood converting line at Suolahti, Finland is planned to be relocated in Estonia.

Final decision on building the plant will be made later. Metsä Wood still considers the mill location between Pärnu and Tartu in Estonia. If the plan materializes, approximately 200 jobs will be created to Estonia.

The company plans to implement the investment program in steps by the end of 2018 and expects to better meet the globally growing demand for its products and improve its competitiveness as a result.
