Doing wood trade with Metsä Group

Metsä Group’s local forest specialists provide help in all questions related to wood trade and wood sales. All you really need is to know the property identifier of your forest estate and have an idea of what you want from your forest. Our forest specialists can propose different alternatives, from which you choose those most suitable for you and your goals.


We purchase most of our wood through standing sale. Standing sale means that we fell the trees and transport them from the forest to the mill. Some forest owners want to do the felling on their own. In this case, we talk about delivery sales, which means that the forest owner fells the trees and transports them to the side of the road for collection by a logging truck.

With Metsä Group, you can trade wood fully electronically in the Metsäverkko service whenever and wherever it is most convenient for you.

You can also request an overall quote for wood trade and forest management work, including all the income and expenses. To receive an offer, submit a request for a quote to us or contact one of our local forest specialists in your forest’s municipality.

The stages of wood trade

    Find your forest’s property identifier and consider what you want from your forest.

    Contact your local forest specialist in your forest’s municipality.

  3. 3.

    Agree a time for the forest specialist to visit your estate.

  4. 4.

    The forest specialist will send you a wood trade offer, as well as an offer for relevant management work and felling should you be interested in them.

  5. 5.

    After you approve the offer, the wood trade agreement can be concluded.

    Any investment in Metsä1 additional shares is also agreed in this connection.

  6. 6.

    Harvesting takes place within two to three years of the conclusion of the agreement.

  7. 7.

    We will send you a measurement certificate concerning the final volume of wood.

    You will receive the money for the sale around one month after the arrival of the measurement certificate.

Metsä Group’s parent company is Metsäliitto Cooperative. Anyone who owns at least three hectares of forestland in Finland can join the cooperative. We pay our owner-members a bonus for regular wood trade and offer them the opportunity to invest their wood trade income in Metsäliitto Cooperative’s Metsä1 additional shares.
