In delivery sales, the forest owner is responsible for felling the trees and moving them to roadside storage, where Metsä Group’s contract entrepreneur will pick them up with a timber lorry. Standing sales is the most common way of doing wood trade in Finland. In standing sales, the purchaser of wood – Metsä Group, that is – fells the trees and transports them from the forest to the mill. Some forest owners want to take care of the felling and transporting to roadside storage. This is called delivery sales.

Metsä Group is Finland’s largest purchaser of wood through delivery sales. We use the method mainly with our owner-members.

If you would like to sell us wood through delivery sales, please contact our forest specialist well before you initiate felling. In delivery sales, the parties agree the volumes and dimensions of wood, the prices, storage locations and the date by which the wood must be in roadside storage ready for transport in advance.

There is often an oversupply of cut wood in the winter, so the only way to ensure that your wood will be received is to contact one of our local forest specialists in advance.

At the sawmill, logs purchased through delivery sales are usually measured with a log-measuring device, and pulpwood with a crane scale.

The wood purchased through delivery sales must be stored properly so that they can be picked up safely. It is particularly important to ensure an adequate safety distance from power lines.
