Future mill in Mariestad

Investment in fresh fibre

Metsä Tissue, part of the Metsä Group, is planning to increase fresh fibre-based tissue paper production at its Katrinefors mill located in Mariestad, Sweden. The Land and Environment Court in Vänersborg (Mark- och Miljödomstolen vid Vänersborgs tingsrätt) in Sweden has granted an environmental permit to the modernisation and expansion of the Katrinefors Mill. The permit was granted in November 2022. The next step in the process is the preparation of the final investment decision by Metsä Group.

The expansion of the mill would include the construction of a new paper machine, new converting lines, an automated warehouse and a new office building. The renewed mill will use best available technology (BAT) to ensure better environmental efficiency in terms of water, noise and air emissions. Our environmental efficiency goal is also supported by doubling the fresh fibre production at the mill from today's 75 000 to 145 000 tonnes.
