Kreuzau mill

Spanning an area of nearly 93,000 m² and with a staff of more than 400 people, the Kreuzau mill is the largest site of the German Metsä Tissue mills. The headquarters of the German management is also located here. The mill was founded in 1868 by the Strepp family for the production of packaging paper. The first tissue machine was built in 1965. In 1980, the company owners decided to discontinue the production of packaging paper and focus on tissue. The Kreuzau mill has been a part of Metsä Tissue since 1999.

Toilet tissue, household towels and industrial rolls are produced at Kreuzau mill. In addition to production, there are several important functions at the site: the maintenance, logistics and material management, product and process development, sales and marketing, as well as controlling and administration departments.

We work with four tissue paper machines, nine processing lines and two deinking systems, in which recycled paper is processed.

We operate sustainably

We are an active member of the community and respect the different local municipalities in which we operate. We employ a significant number of people and actively promote wellbeing in the workplace. Our commitment to local life includes cooperation with the local authorities, schools, media and a variety of partners and organisations. We are continuously working on protecting and improving the environment that surrounds our mill.

Since September 2023 the Kreuzau mill has been replacing the use of fossil-based lignite by wood pellets in the mills heat production.

Joint ownership

Metsä Tissue is a member of the Wasserverband Eifel-Rur (Eifel-Rur Water Association) which operates the sewage treatment mill in Düren. Wastewater from the Kreuzau mill is treated there along with municipal wastewater from the region as well as the wastewater of other industrial dischargers in several process stages. Metsä Tissue delegates representatives to various committees of the Wasserverbandes Eifel-Rur to make an active contribution to the work of the association.
