We aim for a transparent value chain

At Metsä Tissue, we are committed to responsible and transparent practices across our entire supply chain. We have set four key targets related to sustainable procurement for 2030: All of our suppliers will have signed the Metsä Group Code of Conduct for Suppliers and all of our core suppliers will be sustainability assessed and audited, our raw materials will be 100% traceable, and 100% from our fibres will be certified.

  1. All of our suppliers will have signed the Metsä Group Code of Conduct for Suppliers by 2030.
We require all suppliers to commit to the Metsä Group Code of Conduct for Suppliers, which outlines our minimum requirements regarding environmental responsibility, human rights, and ethical business conduct. In 2025, 99.5% of our procurement was sourced from suppliers who have committed to these principles.
  2. All of our core suppliers will be sustainability assessed and audited.
We conduct supplier background checks, risk analyses, assessments, and audits to assist us in our procurement process. We expect our partners to act in alignment with our environmental, social, and governance requirements.
  3. 100% traceability of raw materials.
The origin of our raw materials is important to us. Our goal is that 100% of our raw materials are traceable by 2030. Our primary raw material, wood, is already 100% traceable. Traceability information assists in targeting assessments and audits towards potential risk suppliers.
  4. We target 100% certified fibre.
Metsä Tissue actively promotes the use of forest certification systems such as PEFC and FSC®, which ensure sustainable forest management through independent third-party verification. All our fresh fibre suppliers have a chain-of-custody certification. In 2024, over 95% of our fibres were either PEFC or FSC® certified, with the remaining volume sourced from controlled sources.
