Metsä Tissue’s aim is to be the preferred partner in developing sustainable business and to create a cleaner everyday together with our customers. We have taken a strong effort to contribute to our customers’ sustainability targets by committing to improving our industrial and material efficiency and increasingly using fresh fibres from the Northern forests as our main raw material.
During the year so far, we have progressed in our strategic investments in all our mills to make our offering even more attractive, efficient, and high quality. This, combined to our local, close presence to the markets enhances the supply security, which has proven to be of highest importance in the volatile markets of today.
To highlight just a few of the recent key developments in our pursuit of future tissue production, we are well positioned to significantly strengthen our capabilities to deliver a local, sustainable and high-quality offering in the Scandinavian markets in the second half of the year, as we will start up the expansion part of the Mariestad mill in Sweden. The installations of the main equipment, a new paper machine and converting lines, are currently underway and we are excited to serve our customers with the extended capacity very soon after the summer.
During the spring, we have also announced our plans to discontinue the production of recycled fibre products in our Mänttä mill in Finland and concentrate on modernizing the fresh fibre tissue production capabilities to supply our customers with even more environmentally and operationally efficient and functionally top-class tissue products.
Additionally, several other developments are on-going in the rest of our mill fleet to ensure that we meet the needs of each of our markets with the most optimal products and solutions.
At Metsä we are committed to promoting forerunning forestry practices, where the nature and the economy grow hand in hand. Well managed forests provide the best raw material to hygiene products and our goal is to use this resource responsibly and leave the forests in a better condition for the next generations.
Our fresh fibre-based hygiene tissue production is part of this chain – when the renewable raw material is used 100% efficiently, we create positive impacts even wider than just the tissue products - which alone bring wellbeing and hygiene accessible to tens of millions of people every day.
