Sustainability targets

We are a forerunner in sustainability and have set ourselves ambitious sustainability targets, which we want to achieve by the end of 2030. Among other things, we are aiming for 100% fossil free production and products.

Our greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets are endorsed by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and meet the strictest requirements of the Paris Agreement, which aims to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius compared to pre-industrial levels.

Achieving our targets requires investments and close cooperation with
our partners. We have defined mill-specific measures to combat climate change and reduce water use, for example. As part of Metsä Group, we implement measures to secure forest biodiversity. The foundation for all this lies in safe and responsible operations.

Our targets for 2018–2030 are based on Metsä Group’s strategic sustainability objectives and aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations. We report on our progress against these set targets in our annual report and on our website.

Traceable raw materials and packaging materials
Improved energy efficiency vs. 2018
Of harvesting sites have high biodiversity stumps (MG)
Sustainable suppliers
Less of process water used per tonne produced vs. 2018
Carbon bound to forests & products vs. 2018 (MG)
