Personal development

Metsä Group invests in the continuous development of its personnel based on long-term planning. Our personnel have the possibility to train themselves on various courses and training programmes. Multi-skill development of production personnel is promoted through vocational training and vocational degree programmes.

Business area knowledge and negotiating skills are improved through training programmes directed at sales, marketing and customer service personnel and people working in various expert tasks. The key objectives of training provided for middle management are to increase management skills and deepen understanding of business operations.

This training is offered by business area-specific development programmes, such as Metsä Board’s and Metsä Fibre’s Simplifier, Metsä Tissue’s Unifier and Metsä Wood’s and Metsä Forest’s Avant. We also carry out an annual Group-wide Challenger development programme for management.

The aim of management and supervisory work is to offer all employees good operating preconditions for succeeding in their tasks and for development. Performance appraisals carried out annually serve as a basis for the development of personnel.

The performance appraisals include determining, with the supervisor, the personal targets for training and developing in work assignments for the following year. The appraisals also go through career development, which is supported through various task rotation opportunities and training. The realisation of the objectives agreed on in the performance appraisals is monitored and the results are used, among other things, for the determination of bonuses.
