”We work towards the same goals and encourage each other to do even better.”
My previous jobs as a logging supervisor and a purchasing supervisor were a good springboard for my job as a forestry management foreman. No two days are the same at Metsä Forest.
I make work plans related to the forestry management orders received from the purchasing foremen and provide instructions to the fort workers, forest service and soil cultivation contractors, and I render the accounts for the wages and contracting fees. Then I bill forest owner customers or fill out applications for sustainable forestry financing for managing seedling stands or young forests.
I plan the forestry management work, logging and cutting stands. I record the agreement information into the systems and make the necessary notifications for authorities. And, of course, making new forestry management agreements is also something I’m involved in. I make estate assessments for intergenerational transfers, real estate deals and inventories – sometimes on very short notice. This all involves providing advice to my co-workers and to forest owners.
The best thing about my job is the extensive customer base and my co-workers, and the fact that I feel that I succeed in my work. I get training when needed. Many problems are resolved by talking with co-workers. Encouragement and acknowledgement from supervisors is essential.
Being physically fit brings mental energy. I’m active in many sports, but orienteering is probably my favourite at the moment. Also the employer-organised events advancing well-being at work are important.
At the beginning of March, I’ll start as a member services foreman, so once again I can utilise all my previous work experience. After five years, I hope to still be in a challenging and enjoyable position in a familiar and recognised company owned by forest owners.
